The end of a very different year

2020 is coming to an end, and what a demanding year this has been! Our world has been impacted in a way we never imagined, and we’ve all lived a very different year than planned. But even during these bumpy times, the strength and determination of the human spirit has seen no limits.

As we gear up for celebrations and bid 2020 farewell, I must take this time to thank the remarkable team working at Label Tech for the strength and resilience they’ve shown throughout the year. I must also commend the creativity Irish businesses have demonstrated while operating in an ever-shifting pandemic environment.

During the pandemic, Label Tech, an essential service, remained open, and adapted our practices in line with the HSE and Irish Government safety regulations. This has been a challenging task for the team, but the health & wellbeing of our people is, of course, our top priority. I’d like to recognise the work done by everyone working at Label Tech in maintaining a full service offering to our customers, despite the difficult circumstances.

I would also like to applaud Irish businesses for their creativity and adaptability during 2020. One of our customers, Meltdown Hot Sauce, had a fantastic collaboration with Bujo Burger creating ‘Meltdown Burger Kits.’ These delicious burgers sold out on launch and continued to sell out during the entire lockdown period. On the back of this success, Maeve O’Malley, the proud owner of Meltdown Cafe recently launched her popular ‘Hot Stuff’ sauce in stores all over Ireland and Label Tech was delighted to help another one of Ireland’s incredible food producers manage their label requirements.

Despite the restrictions, a demand for new products emerged and many seized the opportunity to establish their own ventures. Most were family businesses operating from home and with the support of communities have managed to develop a brand.

One new venture worth noting is pyFU (Put Your Feet Up), an Irish brand producing scented candles. Husband and wife team, Joe O’Regan and Deirdre O’Connor took the brave step and created their brand in Spring this year. Their unique scents, like Irish Whiskey and Honey & Tobacco, quickly caught the eye of customers and we truly enjoyed collaborating and supporting this innovative company.

In 2020 there was an increase in appetite for sustainability and we were delighted to be able to offer a full range of biodegradable and compostable label options for our customers. We continuously research the market for the latest eco-friendly label options; to ensure our customers have the most environmentally-friendly options available.

Our investment strategy continued in 2020 with the installation of a new Mark Andy Evolution press to enhance our current service offering. Adaptability is key in an ever-changing market where diversity and innovation drive constant change.

Of course, all this is not possible without the enthusiasm and hard work of each member of staff in Label Tech and the spirit demonstrated during 2020.

2021 will no doubt bring its own set of challenges, however, our focus will be, as always, to invest in our people and our technology. After all, it’s during times like these that we endeavour to go that little bit further, to achieve our best and aim to exceed our customers’ needs.

On behalf of Label Tech I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous start to the new year ahead.
