Welcome to the Christmas edition of our quarterly newsletter. As quickly as our 25th year began it now draws to a close and what an exciting year it’s been. I would like to thank you all for your good wishes throughout what has been a memorable year for both myself and the team here at Label Tech. One of our highlights was the addition of our Series 3 Digicon which has enabled us to work on some fantastic projects, most of which were once only an aspiration. As a result, our Digital offering has grown from strength to strength and we are now one of the leading suppliers to the Beverage and FMCG markets in Ireland. As well as gaining a coveted Deloitte Best Managed Companies Award, for the third year running, we have won major awards at the Irish Print Awards. In fact, only last week we had an unprecedented win when we took home the gold with both the Digital and Flexographic Label Printer of the Year Awards at the IPA's 2017. These were for Mór Irish Handcrafted Gin and The Whistler 5 Year Old Single Cask Whiskey, both of which which we are very proud to have been involved in. As December approaches, our focus now turns to the festive season and the holiday period. Label Tech are making a donation to Focus Ireland this year in lieu of sending Christmas cards. With this in mind, I would like to offer you all my thanks for your ongoing support and on behalf of the Label Tech team, wish you a very enjoyable Christmas and best wishes for 2018.
The first Irish Spiced Rum was officially launched this year, just in time for Christmas. Waterford based Anchor Spirits Ireland Limited is the company behind Spike Island Spiced Rum, which is the latest addition to Anchor’s award-winning stable of Irish drinks which includes Muldoon Irish Whiskey Liqueur and Thin Gin. Spike Island Spiced Rum is a unique offering that breaks the traditional mould. The rum for Spike Island is high proof rum made in the Caribbean and brought to Ireland at full strength where it is spiced and then cut down with Irish spring water to 40% ABV. With nine spices in total there is a distinctive kick to Spike Island Spiced Rum. It’s recommended neat or with a little hint of fresh lime and makes a great winter warmer. Spike Island Spiced Rum already holds a prestigious internationally recognised silver medal from the IWSC Awards held this summer. The label was developed after a consultative process between the client, the designers So & So Design and Label Tech, to achieve its unique features. The outline of the label is the shape of Spike Island itself from an aerial view and distinctive original artwork was used and finished with a black UV varnish that glows in the dark for extra impact. Sliabh Liag Distillery has launched An Dúlamán, an Irish Maritime Gin. An Dúlamán is inspired by the Donegal coast and the ingredients found around the Sliabh Liag peninsula. The Sliabh Liag Distillery is Donegal’s first distillery in 175 years and its directors, James and Moira Doherty, have set out to build super premium brands, and to reclaim the almost lost distilling heritage of Donegal. An Dúlamán uses 11 botanicals and a variety of locally harvested seaweeds and is bottled at 43.2%, the abv at which the delicate and complex flavours can best be savoured. It is presented in a dark 50cl bottle, reminiscent of the bottles found along the Donegal shore during the wrecks of the Spanish Armada. Each bottle is wax-sealed and the batch number is linked to the lunar phases. The development of the label that would highlight and compliment these unique properties was done in collaboration between Label Tech and Sliabh Liag Distillery. “The quality of the labels is absolutely out of the top drawer. The advice and recommendations in the development to ensure we got beautiful labels that bring our brand to life was both professional and much appreciated. In addition the attention that was given to the practical application of the labels, has made a huge difference to our business. Go raibh mile maith agat Dave Lambert and Label Tech!” James Doherty, Managing Director, Sliabh Liag Distillery. https://www.sliabhliagdistillery.com/
As with many of the Dot Brew beers, which are aged in various types of casks, this Saison beer was aged in Tequila casks to give it a unique flavour and this takes time. We took this time to work with Shane Kelly from Dot Brew to create a standout label that reflects the Mexican influence brought to this beer through the Tequila casks. The ‘Day of the Dead’ mask concept was developed and Label Tech worked to create a multi-level emboss to bring it to life and make it jump off the bottle. As with cask aged beer, time taken is always rewarded and we are very happy that the label should do justice to the beer inside the bottle and show what is possible. As you'll see Label Tech branding is present on the back of the bottle also, proving how happy the customer is with the end result! http://dotbrew.ie/
